Metro's piece Feelers sets the theme with large kicks, bass hits that decay slowly, and reverb to sit in the empty space. Shuffles and a steady single block hit create the sense of tempo leading into Déjà Vu by Snaper which goes even sparser but introduces fragments of break beats.

Like tracing a cycle, Déjà Vu set ups Brijawi's Drumfunk piece, ATG, where rolling snares and a funky bassline are the focus. Dot Product revists the saturated reverb and emptiness of Feelers with a long, almost ambient piece with muted kicks and sustained swells of noise.

For the fifth year of Pinecone Moonshine, I wanted to look back to the first releases: a return to sparse atmosphere and noise leaving the focus on Drum Funk style programming. Part one of two is on the brassier side with ringing drums and inharmonic sounds.

These Other Thoughts taps directly into PCMS 001 as a type of remix of These Ugly Thoughts.

The live band, Liquid Break, and Drum and Bass producers, Hidden Element, joined in the studio to build the pieces making up Pop Musiq. Ranging from high energy to relaxed, the musical range has moments resembling film scores.

Simple Song builds drumming, bass guitar, horns, keys, and field recordings with DnB sequencing. Percussion is fore front with vocals building the transitions.

The next tack slows the tempo down. Guitar and trumpet set a bluesy feel leading into the fast tempo Outside Blues with prominent bass guitar, slide guitar, heavy bass stabs, and broken driving rhythms.

Not for Mortal is a suitable outro. Experimentation with a repeating drum rhythm fades to an uplifting ambient phrase.

Ambient, quiet, and minimal are the backdrops to Ibunshi's sharply compressed percussion. Bass lines, kicks drums, and inharmonic melodies are hard to distinguish as one or the other. Rhythms subtly change sometimes shifting out of tempo or to different time signatures. Ibunshi's sound is defining and a key part of Pinecone Moonshine.

The last track moves away from the ambient scapes to a slower tempo piece with double bass and Rhodes feeling like a live jazz trio.

Alphacut Records' LXC sets the intention of this series with beeps and tones reminiscent of early electronics. Deep bass and delays build the rhythm.

Parallel continues the theme adding in drawn out echoes underneath the clicks, kicks, and bass stabs. The second half introduces an amen section that quickly goes away as if it were unintended.

Eschaton's X Cygni is an oddity of glitches and Acid Techno at Drum and Bass tempo.

Reach Out is a preview of Ibunshi's forthcoming solo EP. Massively deep bass stabs, massively wide atmosphere, massively punchy drums. More to come.

Macc remixes Da Sickness into a monster half tempo track that keeps evolving with horn swells and squelching bass notes.

Decay is anxious. Fada mixes the best Drum and Bass elements: overly large subs, drum change ups, and sparse everything else.

Ricky Force's Hardcore is a rush of drums from the start. Synths and piano lead into delayed bass notes progressing to droning ambient and horns and then building back up again.
